The “Dear Moon” Project by SpaceX: Breakthrough Lunar Tourism

Dear Moon is a lunar tourism project that will deliver the first unaccompanied private tourists into lunar orbit. The fact that private individuals will be able to experience space flight on such a lengthy journey for the first time in history makes this mission an important step towards the commercialization of space. Maezawa already had a contract with SpaceX for a lunar flyby in the Dragon 2 spacecraft, which would only hold two people and be launched by the Falcon Heavy rocket.

According to an announcement by SpaceX in early 2018, the Falcon Heavy plan was dropped as an alternative to Starship development. Starship, the new SpaceX’s vehicle, is indeed currently in development: for the first time on February 9, 2023, SpaceX performed the first static fire of 31 Raptor engines of the Super Heavy booster.

Yusaku Maezawa (Japan) is the inspiration behind “Dear Moon.” He is currently on his second space mission and is passionate about opening up space to the general people through art. He born in Chiba prefecture, Japan, in 1975. He founded the company Start Today Ltd. (currently, ZOZO, Inc.) In December 2021, he became the first Japanese civilian to visit the ISS, spending about 12 days on board.

Steve Aoki (United States): Aoki, a well-known DJ and artist, will be traveling to space for the first time. Even though he isn’t the spacecraft’s pilot, his presence gives the expedition a special musical depth.

Karim Iliya (United Kingdom): Karim Iliya, a photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty of nature, will turn his lens to the cosmos on his first spaceflight.

Brendan Hall (United States): Brendan Hall, a filmmaker, will document the “Dear Moon” mission, ensuring that this incredible journey is shared with the world. It’s his first spaceflight as well.

Dev Joshi (India): Dev Joshi is a talented actor from India, and this mission marks his first spaceflight. His presence adds a touch of drama to the cosmic narrative.

Choi Seung-hyun (South Korea): Choi Seung-hyun, a South Korean singer known as T.O.P, embarks on his first spaceflight. His musical talents will resonate among the stars.

22 Starlink satellites have been launched by SpaceX

On Saturday, August 26 at 9:05 p.m. ET, Falcon 9 launched 22 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Following stage separation, the first stage landed on the Just Read the Instructions droneship, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

What is Starlink program by SpaceX?

The goal of SpaceX’s Starlink project is to use a constellation of thousands of satellites to deliver high-speed internet connectivity to any location on Earth. Elon Musk established SpaceX. The satellites orbit the Earth at a low height of roughly 550 kilometers and are launched in groups of 60. In particular, Starlink wants to provide internet access that is quicker, more affordable, and more dependable than currently available options in rural and distant locations where connectivity is scarce or nonexistent.

How does Starlink work?

In contrast to conventional satellite internet, which relies on a single geostationary satellite orbiting at around 35,000 km above the planet, Starlink satellites travel much closer to the surface, at about 550 km, lowering latency and boosting connection bandwidth. Four phased array antennas and two parabolic antennas are used on each satellite to boost capacity.

The launch that took place tonight extended SpaceX’s record for a calendar year with its 63rd launch of 2023. The prior record, 61, was established in 2022.
